Neopatriarchal

Neopatriarchy is a term used to describe a contemporary form of patriarchal social organization. It is characterized by a blend of traditional patriarchal values and structures with modern or neomodern social and economic realities. Unlike historical patriarchies that might have been more overtly hierarchical and exclusive, neopatriarchy often operates within ostensibly democratic or egalitarian frameworks, while still maintaining a male-dominated power structure in key areas.

This ideology or social system typically emphasizes traditional gender roles, with men expected to be providers and leaders, and women often relegated to domestic or supportive roles. However, it may also acknowledge women's participation in the workforce or public life to varying degrees, as long as it does not fundamentally challenge male authority. Neopatriarchal systems can manifest in family structures, workplaces, political spheres, and cultural norms, often subtly reinforcing male dominance through implicit biases and established power dynamics. The "neo" prefix signifies its adaptation to contemporary society, differentiating it from older, more rigid patriarchal models. It is a concept often discussed in sociological and feminist critiques of modern social structures.
