Nenäendoskopia

Nenäendoskopia, also known as nasal endoscopy, is a diagnostic procedure used to visualize the interior of the nasal cavity and sinuses. It involves the use of a thin, flexible tube with a light and camera, called an endoscope, which is inserted into the nostrils to provide a clear view of the nasal passages and surrounding structures. This procedure is typically performed by ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialists to diagnose and monitor various conditions affecting the nasal cavity and sinuses.

The primary purpose of nenäendoskopia is to examine the nasal and sinus anatomy for signs of inflammation, infection, structural abnormalities, or other pathological changes. It can help in diagnosing conditions such as chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, deviated septum, and tumors. The procedure is also useful in assessing the effectiveness of treatments and in planning surgical interventions.

Before the procedure, the nasal passages are typically numbed with a local anesthetic spray to minimize discomfort. The endoscope is then gently inserted, and the images are displayed on a monitor for the physician to examine. The procedure is usually well-tolerated and takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Patients may experience some mild discomfort or a feeling of congestion, but serious complications are rare.
