A nephrologist is a medical doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases. These diseases can affect the kidneys' ability to filter waste products from the blood, regulate blood pressure, maintain electrolyte balance, and produce hormones that help with red blood cell production and bone health. Nephrologists treat a wide range of conditions, including chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, kidney stones, urinary tract infections, and hypertension related to kidney problems.
The field of nephrology also encompasses the management of kidney failure, which may require dialysis or a
