Nattfasting

Nattfasting, also known as overnight fasting, is a period of voluntary abstention from food that spans overnight and typically concludes with the first meal of the day. This practice is a natural aspect of human physiology, as most people do not eat while sleeping. The duration of nattfasting varies depending on individual eating patterns and sleep schedules.

The concept of nattfasting has gained attention in discussions about intermittent fasting. In the context of intermittent fasting, nattfasting refers to the extended period between the last meal of one day and the first meal of the next. For example, someone who finishes dinner at 7 PM and does not eat again until breakfast at 7 AM has engaged in a 12-hour nattfast. This 12-hour window is often considered a baseline for many intermittent fasting approaches.

Proponents suggest that nattfasting can contribute to metabolic health. During the fasting period, the body can deplete its readily available glucose stores and begin to access stored fat for energy. This process, known as ketogenesis, is a key mechanism in fat burning. Additionally, extended fasting periods may allow the digestive system to rest and repair.

While nattfasting is a common and often unintentional part of daily life, consciously extending this period can be part of a broader dietary strategy.
