Narvi

Narvi is a dwarf of Durin's Folk in J. R. R. Tolkien's legendarium. He is described as a craftsman who, in collaboration with Celebrimbor, the elven smith of Hollin (Eregion), helped forge the Doors of Durin for Khazad-dûm, the great dwarven city that later became known as Moria. The doors stood at the western entrance of Khazad-dûm and bore inscriptions in the Dwarvish and Elvish scripts, serving as the principal gateway to the ancient realm.

Narvi’s name is associated with the doors as their builder, a linkage often cited in Tolkien’s writings as an example of a rare alliance between dwarves and elves in the distant past. The doors are best known in the story for the riddle-like inscription that culminates in the famous line commonly paraphrased as "Speak, friend, and enter." Beyond his role in the creation of the Doors of Durin, little is detailed about Narvi in the canonical texts, and his later fate is not recorded.

In Tolkien's legendarium, the Doors remained a symbol of the ancient collaboration between the dwarves of Khazad-dûm and the Elves of Hollin, and Narvi is remembered as one of the craftsmen responsible for their enduring monument.
