Nappulien is a fictional archipelago and cultural region in the northern seas, described in Nordic fantasy literature and role-playing games.

Its name derives from nappuli, a local term for small pegs used in traditional boat rigging, a motif that appears in crafts and folklore.

Geography and settlement: The archipelago comprises about eighteen main islands and many islets along a jagged coastline. It experiences a maritime subarctic climate, with short summers and long winters. The terrain ranges from windswept cliffs to spruce forests, with harbors that support small communities.

Population and administration: About 40,000 people live across island towns and rural areas. Nappulien is depicted as an autonomous region within the fictional Nordmark Confederation, with its own assembly and customary laws.

History: Archaeological finds indicate prehistoric settlement, with Norse and Finnic influences. In the medieval period, Nappulien developed as a maritime hub for boat rigging and fish processing. In modern fiction, it maintains autonomy while forming loose ties with neighbors.

Economy and culture: The economy centers on sustainable fishing, seaweed farming, boat-building, and tourism. A distinctive craft is wood carving and peg-work (nappuli) used in historic vessels. The annual Nappulien Festival celebrates seafaring, folklore, and craft.
