Naphthols
Naphthols are a group of organic compounds that are isomers of hydroxynaphthalene. They are characterized by a hydroxyl group (-OH) attached to a naphthalene ring system. The two most common isomers are alpha-naphthol (1-naphthol) and beta-naphthol (2-naphthol). Alpha-naphthol has the hydroxyl group at the alpha position of the naphthalene ring, while beta-naphthol has it at the beta position. These compounds are typically white or pale yellow crystalline solids.
Naphthols are important intermediates in the synthesis of a wide variety of organic chemicals, particularly dyes
The chemical properties of naphthols are influenced by both the hydroxyl group and the aromatic naphthalene
