Naofumi

Naofumi is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Japanese light novel series The Rising of the Shield Hero, written by Aneko Yusagi. The story follows Naofumi as he is summoned to another world to become one of the four Cardinal Heroes, tasked with defending the realm against interdimensional waves of monsters. He is designated as the Shield Hero, wielding a legendary shield as his sole weapon.

Initially, Naofumi is betrayed and ostracized by the kingdom and its inhabitants, leading to a deep distrust of others. This early experience shapes his personality, making him appear cynical and self-serving to those who don't know him well. However, beneath this exterior, he possesses a strong sense of justice and a desire to protect those he comes to care for.

Throughout his journey, Naofumi acquires companions, most notably Raphtalia, a demi-human slave he rescues, and Filo, a Filolial Queen. These bonds become central to his development, as he learns to trust again and forms a found family. He is known for his strategic thinking and his ability to adapt his shield's abilities to various situations. His journey is one of overcoming adversity, prejudice, and learning to rebuild his faith in humanity.
