Nanomaterialforschung, also known as nanomaterial research, is a scientific field dedicated to the study and application of materials with at least one dimension in the nanoscale, typically between 1 and 100 nanometers. At this scale, materials exhibit unique physical, chemical, and biological properties that differ significantly from their bulk counterparts. This arises from quantum mechanical effects and a high surface-area-to-volume ratio.

The research encompasses the synthesis, characterization, and application of these materials. Synthesis methods can include top-down approaches, such as lithography and milling, and bottom-up approaches, like chemical vapor deposition and self-assembly. Energy storage and conversion technologies, including batteries and solar cells, are also being revolutionized by nanomaterials.
