Nahuelbuta

Nahuelbuta is a mountain range located in southern-central Chile, primarily within the Araucanía Region. The name "Nahuelbuta" comes from the Mapuche language, meaning "jaguar deformed" or "agitated jaguar." These mountains form a significant geographical barrier between the coastal plain and the more inland valleys. The range is characterized by its dense native forests, including araucaria (monkey puzzle tree) and coihue species, which are iconic to Chilean temperate rainforests. Several rivers originate in the Nahuelbuta mountains, flowing westward towards the Pacific Ocean.

The Nahuelbuta National Park is a protected area within the mountain range, established to preserve its unique ecosystem and biodiversity. This park is known for its rugged terrain, clear rivers, and diverse wildlife, including various bird species and small mammals.
