The term is used in German-speaking markets to describe a secondary or supplementary order arising after a first agreement has been put in place.

It is commonly employed in manufacturing, construction, logistics, and IT projects, especially where a framework agreement, master contract, or long-term relationship exists. A Nachauftrag allows buyers to scale production or extend scope without renegotiating the entire contract, accommodating changing demand, design updates, or extended service needs.

Form and terms vary by agreement. A Nachauftrag is typically issued as a new purchase order or as an amendment to the existing contract.
