NVivo

NVivo is a qualitative data analysis software package developed by QSR International. It helps researchers organize, code, and analyze qualitative and mixed-method data across fields such as the social sciences, education, health, and market research.

Users import data from interviews, focus groups, surveys, field notes, academic papers, PDFs, audio, video, images, web content, and social media. Transcription and coding workflows enable creating nodes (codes) and hierarchies, attaching memos, and annotating passages.

Analytic features include text search, word frequency queries, matrix coding queries, and other advanced search tools. Visualizations such as charts, models, word trees, and cluster maps help identify themes and relationships. NVivo supports mixed-methods analysis by linking qualitative data with quantitative data.

Collaboration features support multi-user projects with cloud options for teams, including merging changes and resolving conflicts. NVivo runs on Windows and macOS and supports importing from and exporting to common formats such as Word, PDF, and Excel, as well as exporting coded data for reporting.

Licensing is commercial, available as perpetual or subscription licenses, with trial versions. It is widely used in academia and industry for qualitative analysis, thematic coding, and evaluative research.
