NVODs

NVOD stands for Near Video On Demand. It is a television service that offers a library of movies and other content that can be watched at scheduled times. Unlike true Video On Demand (VOD) where a viewer can start a program at any time they choose, NVOD presents content on a recurring schedule, similar to traditional television channels, but with the ability to select a specific start time from a range of options. Typically, these options are spaced out every 15, 30, or 60 minutes.

This system allows users to choose a viewing time that suits them without having to wait for the next broadcast of a program on a regular channel. The content is usually pre-downloaded to the provider's servers and then transmitted to subscribers' set-top boxes. When a user selects a program and a desired start time, the set-top box accesses the available stream. NVOD was a popular offering in the early days of digital television and was often bundled with premium movie channels. It provided a step up from linear broadcasting by offering more choice in viewing times, but it has largely been superseded by true VOD services that offer immediate playback.
