NGuessanAh

NGuessanAh, born in 1983 in Accra, Ghana, is a contemporary filmmaker and screenwriter whose work focuses on cross-cultural narratives and the diasporic experience. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies at the University of Ghana, subsequently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in International Film Production at the University of Southern California. During his graduate studies, NGuessanAh produced the short film “Echoes of the Savannah,” which was selected for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab in 2011.

His feature debut, “Tides of Ashanti,” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2015 and was praised for its nuanced portrayal of traditional Ghanaian values intersecting with modern urban life. The film garnered the Emerging Spirit Award at the African Diaspora Film Festival and was released theatrically in several European markets. In addition to filmmaking, NGuessanAh has written several essays on the portrayal of African societies in contemporary cinema, contributing to international journals such as the Journal of African Cultural Studies.

NGuessanAh’s subsequent projects include the documentary “Sankofa: Voices of the Past,” which examines the impact of colonialism on Ghanaian folklore, and the television series “Diaspora Diaries,” a scripted anthology broadcast on the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation. He is active in mentoring young filmmakers through the African Cinema Initiative and regularly delivers keynote addresses at global film conferences.
