NGVs

NGV stands for Natural Gas Vehicle. These vehicles use compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG) as an alternative fuel to gasoline or diesel. CNG is stored in high-pressure tanks, while LNG is stored in cryogenic tanks at very low temperatures. NGVs are often used in fleets, such as buses, refuse trucks, and delivery vans, due to potential cost savings and environmental benefits.

The combustion of natural gas produces fewer greenhouse gas emissions and particulate matter compared to traditional fossil fuels. This makes NGVs an attractive option for reducing air pollution in urban areas. The infrastructure for refueling NGVs is still developing, but it is growing, especially in regions with readily available natural gas supplies.

There are two main types of NGVs: dedicated and bi-fuel. Dedicated NGVs run solely on natural gas, while bi-fuel vehicles can operate on either natural gas or gasoline, offering more flexibility. The cost of NGVs can be higher upfront than comparable gasoline or diesel vehicles, but operational savings over time can offset this initial investment. The performance of NGVs is generally comparable to conventional vehicles, though tank size and refueling time can be considerations.
