NDV

NDV is an initialism that can refer to different concepts depending on the context. Two of its more common meanings are in geospatial data and in virology.

NoData value (NDV) is a term used in geospatial and raster data processing to represent missing, undefined, or unknown data within a grid or image. NDV allows software to distinguish between valid measurements and gaps in data, which is important for accurate analysis, visualization, and calculations such as terrain modeling, land cover classification, and remote sensing. Different file formats and software packages may designate NDV in various ways, but the underlying idea is to mark pixels or cells that should be ignored or treated specially during processing.

Newcastle disease virus (NDV) is a member of the genus Avulavirus within the family Paramyxoviridae. It infects birds and can cause Newcastle disease, a highly contagious condition that affects poultry and wild birds. NDV strains range in virulence from lentogenic (low) to velogenic (high), influencing both disease outcomes and control strategies. The virus is of particular concern for veterinary health, trade, and agriculture, and it is a focus of vaccination programs, biosecurity measures, and virology research. NDV is also used in scientific studies to understand viral biology and host–pathogen interactions.

NDV may have other specialized meanings in different fields, but NoData value and Newcastle disease virus are among the most widely encountered interpretations.
