Müralõikust

Müralõikust, also known as noise cutting or noise reduction, is a technique used to decrease or eliminate unwanted sound from a signal. This is particularly relevant in audio processing, but the principles can be applied to other forms of signal analysis. The primary goal is to isolate the desired signal from background noise.

There are various methods for müralõikust. One common approach involves spectral subtraction, where the noise spectrum is estimated from a segment of the signal assumed to be pure noise, and then subtracted from the overall signal spectrum. Another technique is Wiener filtering, which aims to minimize the mean square error between the estimated signal and the original signal. Adaptive filters are also employed, where the filter's characteristics are adjusted over time to better track and remove the changing noise.

The effectiveness of müralõikust depends on the nature of the signal and the noise. Stationary noise, which has consistent statistical properties over time, is generally easier to remove than non-stationary noise, which varies unpredictably. Artifacts can be introduced during the noise reduction process, such as "musical noise" or distortions, which can degrade the quality of the desired signal. Applications range from enhancing speech intelligibility in noisy environments to cleaning up audio recordings and improving the quality of sensor data.
