Mõttekatkestus

Mõttekatkestus is an Estonian term that translates to "thought interruption" or "mental pause." It refers to a brief, involuntary cessation of thinking or a momentary lapse in concentration. This phenomenon is a common human experience, often occurring when someone is performing a routine task, under stress, or experiencing fatigue.

These interruptions can manifest in various ways. For instance, a person might suddenly forget what they were about to say, lose their train of thought mid-sentence, or momentarily blank out while performing a familiar action like driving or cooking. While generally harmless, frequent or prolonged mõttekatkestus can sometimes be an indicator of underlying issues such as stress, lack of sleep, or certain medical conditions.

The causes are believed to be multifaceted, involving the brain's executive functions which manage attention and working memory.
