Märzenbier is a style of lager beer that originated in Bavaria. Historically, it was brewed in March and cellared until the autumn. The name "Märzen" comes from the German word for March. Due to the warmer temperatures in summer, brewing was traditionally prohibited from April to September, so brewers made sure to have enough beer for the entire period.
