Mälusüsteemide

Mälusüsteemide refers to memory systems in Estonian. This term encompasses the various methods and technologies used to store and retrieve data. In computing, memory systems are fundamental components that allow electronic devices to function. They can be broadly categorized into primary memory (main memory) and secondary memory (storage).

Primary memory, often called RAM (Random Access Memory), is volatile and used for actively running programs and data. It provides fast access speeds but loses its contents when power is turned off. Examples include DRAM and SRAM.

Secondary memory, also known as storage, is non-volatile and used for long-term data retention. It is slower than primary memory but retains information even without power. Common types of secondary memory include hard disk drives (HDDs), solid-state drives (SSDs), USB flash drives, and optical media like CDs and DVDs.

Beyond computer systems, the concept of memory systems can also apply to biological and human memory, referring to the mechanisms by which organisms encode, store, and recall information. In this context, it involves neurological processes and structures within the brain.
