Muuga

Muuga is a harbour area on Muuga Bay in northern Estonia, located near the capital city of Tallinn. It lies within Maardu municipality in Harju County and is the site of the Port of Muuga, a major cargo port in Estonia. The port serves as a key node for bulk and general cargo movements and supports Estonia’s import and export activities.

The Port of Muuga handles a range of cargo, including bulk commodities such as oil products, coal, grain, fertilizers, and timber. It also offers container and general cargo handling through its various terminals. The port is equipped with facilities designed for efficient transfer of goods between sea, rail, and road networks, enabling connections to the Baltic region and beyond.

Development of Muuga began in the late Soviet era, with subsequent expansions and modernization in the post-Soviet period. The facility expanded to accommodate growing demand for bulk and energy-related shipments, and the area hosts an oil terminal that contributes to Estonia’s role as an energy conduit in the Baltic region.
