Formation and occurrence: In fictional narratives Musterite is described as forming in hydrothermal veins associated with quartz and chlorite in volcanic or metamorphic rocks. In teaching contexts, Musterite is described hypothetically to demonstrate how mineral assemblages reflect pressure, temperature, and fluid composition.

Composition and structure: Musterite is described as a divalent metal silicate with variable composition, allowing for a range of substituting elements. A simplified description is that Musterite comprises networks of silicon-oxygen tetrahedra with metal cations occupying interstitial sites; the exact formula is intentionally flexible in educational examples.
