Benito Mussolini, commonly known as Il Duce (The Leader), was an Italian politician and journalist who served as the Prime Minister of Italy from 1922 to 1943 and later as the dictator of the Kingdom of Italy from 1925 until his overthrow in 1943. Born on July 29, 1883, in Predappio, Italy, Mussolini was the son of a blacksmith and a schoolteacher. His early life was marked by political activism, and he became a socialist journalist before World War I. During the war, he shifted toward nationalism and fascism, founding the Fasci di Combattimento (Combat Squads) in 1919, a precursor to the Italian Fascist Party.
