Muotostämistavat refers to methods of shaping or forming materials, particularly in manufacturing and craft contexts. These techniques are fundamental to producing objects with specific shapes and dimensions. Broadly, they can be categorized into additive and subtractive processes, as well as forming processes that manipulate the material's form without significantly adding or removing material.

Additive processes involve building up a shape layer by layer, such as 3D printing or casting. In 3D printing, digital models are translated into physical objects by depositing material precisely. Casting, on the other hand, involves pouring molten material into a mold and allowing it to solidify.

Subtractive processes remove material from a larger block to achieve the desired shape. Machining operations like milling, turning, and drilling fall into this category. These methods require precision to remove excess material accurately.

Forming processes alter the shape of a material, often through the application of force or heat. Examples include forging, where metal is shaped by hammering or pressing; stamping, used to create shapes by pressing a die onto a material; and bending, which changes the angle of a material.
