Muotiliittimiä
Muotiliittimiä, or fashion connectors in English, refer to the various mechanical, textile, or adhesive devices that join, secure, or decorate components of garments. Common types include buttons, zippers, snaps, hooks, earloops, and quilting seams. Each offers a distinct functional and aesthetic contribution to apparel design. Buttons, historically made of bone or brass, transitioned to plastic and rubber in the twentieth century, enabling mass production and diverse styles. Zippers, invented by Gideon Sundback in 1913, provide a smooth fastening mechanism that has become ubiquitous in outerwear and casual wear. Snap fasteners combine a push‑button and a metal pin, offering quick closure with minimal wear. Hook-and‑loop fasteners (Velcro) introduced by Swiss engineer George de Mestral in 1941 allow reversible fastening and are now used in a range of clothing, from sports apparel to children's wear.
In contemporary design, magnet rails, invisible seams, and fusible patches are used primarily for their discreetness
