Multiplekserit

Multiplekserit, often shortened to multiplexers or muxes, are electronic devices or software that combine multiple analog or digital signal inputs into a single output signal. This process, known as multiplexing, allows for the transmission of multiple signals over a single communication channel, such as a wire, fiber optic cable, or radio frequency. This is highly beneficial for saving bandwidth and reducing the cost of infrastructure.

There are several types of multiplexing techniques. Time-division multiplexing (TDM) assigns a specific time slot to each input signal. Frequency-division multiplexing (FDM) assigns a different frequency band to each input signal. Wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) is similar to FDM but is used for optical signals, assigning different wavelengths of light to each input. Code-division multiplexing (CDM) uses unique codes to differentiate signals that share the same time and frequency.

Multiplexers are widely used in various applications. In telecommunications, they are essential for combining multiple phone calls or data streams onto a single line. In computer networking, they enable the efficient use of network cables. They are also found in test and measurement equipment, audio mixers, and industrial control systems. The primary function of a multiplexer is to increase the efficiency of data transmission and resource utilization.
