A multilådemaskine, often translated as a multi-drawer machine, is a type of automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS). It is characterized by a series of horizontal shelves or drawers that are accessed by a robotic shuttle or a similar vertical and horizontal transport mechanism. These machines are designed to efficiently store and retrieve a wide variety of items, from small components to larger goods.

The core function of a multilådemaskine is to maximize storage density within a given footprint. By stacking items vertically and utilizing narrow aisles, these systems can hold significantly more inventory than traditional shelving or racking in the same floor space. The automated nature of the retrieval process reduces the need for manual labor, leading to faster order fulfillment and improved operational efficiency.

Multilådemaskine systems are commonly employed in warehouses, distribution centers, and manufacturing facilities. The operation typically involves a central control system that tracks the location of each item. When an item is requested, the system directs the shuttle to the correct drawer, retrieves the item, and delivers it to a designated pick-up or consolidation point.
