Motorenwerke

Motorenwerke, literally "engine works" in German, is a term historically used to describe factories or companies involved in the design, manufacture, and testing of engines and propulsion systems, particularly internal combustion engines and aircraft engines. The designation often appeared in corporate titles or branding and could refer to a facility within a larger industrial group.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many German-speaking manufacturers adopted Motorenwerke as part of their identity. The designation was especially common in the aviation and automotive sectors, where specialized engine production required dedicated production lines, test facilities, and research departments. Some facilities produced complete powerplants, while others supplied components such as cylinders, camshafts, or superchargers.
