Morális

Morális is an adjective used in Hungarian to describe anything related to morality or ethical norms. It is typically applied to judgments, actions, principles, or standards that are considered sound, proper, or in accordance with a given idea of good conduct. Common collocations include morális értékek (moral values), morális döntés (moral decision), and morális elvek (m moral principles).

Etymology and usage. The term derives from Latin moralis and is related to similar words in many European languages, such as English moral and French morale. In Hungarian, morális entered widespread usage through modern linguistic contact and is often used in everyday, academic, and media contexts. It is distinct from morál, which in Hungarian typically refers to morale or team spirit rather than ethical standards.

Relation to other concepts. In practice, morális is linked to the field of ethics (etika) and moral philosophy. It coexists with or contrasts with synonyms such as erkölcsi and erkölcs, which also denote morality or ethical norms but may carry different nuance or formality.
