Morax

Morax is a figure in Western occultism, primarily documented in grimoires from the early modern period. In The Lesser Key of Solomon, also known as the Goetia, Morax is listed among the 72 demons as a Great Earl of Hell who governs several legions. The name appears with spelling variants such as Morax and Moraxus, and later compendia often reflect minor textual differences.

Descriptions of Morax’s appearance vary, but he is commonly depicted as a man with the face of a lion or dragon. In some illustrations he is shown riding a dragon or another creature, underscoring an imposing and authoritative presence. The depictions emphasize a demeanor suited to inquiry and instruction.

Morax is associated with knowledge and the sciences. Traditional attributions include instruction in astronomy and celestial matters, as well as philosophy, rhetoric, and logic.
