The viscosity of engine oil, indicated by a number like 5W-30, is a measure of its resistance to flow. The "W" stands for winter, and the first number indicates the oil's viscosity at low temperatures, while the second number represents its viscosity at operating temperatures. Choosing the correct engine oil viscosity, as specified by the vehicle manufacturer, is vital for optimal engine performance and longevity. Regular oil changes are also recommended to maintain the oil's effectiveness.
