MoonSilent

MoonSilent is a modular vibration isolation and noise-control system intended for lunar surface science. It is designed to decouple sensitive instruments from lander and rover-induced vibrations, dust impacts, and thermal transients, improving data quality for seismology, radio astronomy, and environmental monitoring.

The core of MoonSilent is a three-tier approach: passive isolation using a compliant platform with tuned mass dampers; active isolation with sensors, actuators, and a feedback controller; and a hermetically sealed instrument enclosure with thermal stabilization. The platform employs low-outgassing, non-magnetic materials and lubricants compatible with vacuum. Cabling and connectors are designed to minimize thermal load and dust ingress. The system is modular and scalable, allowing different instruments to be mounted in stackable or side-by-side configurations.

Development and testing: MoonSilent was developed by MoonSilent Systems in collaboration with university laboratories and space-industry partners. It has undergone bench testing, vacuum chamber tests, and vibration shake tests in Earth-based lunar analog facilities, with performance showing significant attenuation of high-frequency and mid-frequency vibrations and suppression of external noise sources.

Applications and status: The design targets scientific payloads such as seismometers, magnetometers, low-frequency radio antennas, and miniature laboratories for precision measurements. As of the latest published information, MoonSilent remains in the prototype and validation phase, with potential consideration for future lunar missions if supported by partners and funding.
