Monkeypot

Monkeypot refers to a type of climbing plant in the genus Lecythis. These trees are native to tropical rainforests of South America, particularly in the Amazon basin. The name "monkeypot" is derived from the large, woody, pot-shaped fruits that hang from the tree. The Lecythis genus is part of the Brazil nut family (Lecythidaceae). While some species of Lecythis are harvested for their edible seeds, which are similar to Brazil nuts, the economic importance of monkeypot varies by species. The wood of these trees is also utilized for various purposes, including construction and furniture making. The cultivation of monkeypot trees is not widespread commercially, and they are primarily found in their natural habitat.
