Monkeypot
Monkeypot refers to a type of climbing plant in the genus Lecythis. These trees are native to tropical rainforests of South America, particularly in the Amazon basin. The name "monkeypot" is derived from the large, woody, pot-shaped fruits that hang from the tree. These fruits, when they fall and split open, reveal a cavity filled with seeds embedded in a fibrous mass. Monkeys and other animals are known to raid these fruits for the nutritious seeds.
The Lecythis genus is part of the Brazil nut family (Lecythidaceae). While some species of Lecythis are
