Monaco-Ville, often referred to as Le Rocher (the Rock), is the historic town and one of the four traditional quartiers of the Principality of Monaco. It sits on a limestone promontory overlooking the Mediterranean in the northwest part of the country and forms the political and ceremonial heart of Monaco. The prince's residence and the seat of government are traditionally located here.

Key landmarks include the Prince's Palace (Palais Princier), the official residence of the ruling prince, and the Saint Nicholas Cathedral (Cathedrale Saint-Nicolas), the principal church where the Grimaldi royal family is interred. The Oceanographic Museum (Musée Océanographique de Monaco) is perched on the cliff above the sea, while Fort Antoine and the surrounding ramparts preserve the area's medieval fortifications. The streets are narrow and steep, with historic houses cascading down toward the harbor.

Functionally, Monaco-Ville serves as the ceremonial center of state life and a preserved historic district. Daily routines include the changing of the guard at the palace forecourt. Religious, cultural, and civic events take place within the cathedral, museum, and public squares. The area is a major tourist draw for its views, architecture, and sense of historical continuity.

Historically the Rock has been fortified since medieval times, and Monaco-Ville grew around the fortress that protected the principality. In the modern era it has remained the political core, even as Monaco expanded with new districts for housing and commerce.

Visitors typically reach Monaco-Ville by road or footpaths from Monte Carlo and the harbor area. The district is compact and pedestrian-friendly, with viewpoints over the harbour and sea.
