Moduulimuotoisia

Moduulimuotoisia is a Finnish linguistic form used to refer to modular forms in mathematics. The base term moduulimuoto (modular form) denotes a holomorphic function on the complex upper half-plane that satisfies a specific transformation law under the action of a subgroup of SL2(Z) and meets a growth condition at cusps. When describing more than one such object, Finnish uses the inflected adjective moduulimuotoisia, as in “moduulimuotoisia kappaleita.”

In mathematical practice, the objects referred to by this term belong to spaces denoted M_k(Γ), where Γ is a Fuchsian group (often a congruence subgroup of SL2(Z)) and k is a nonnegative integer called the weight. For a fixed Γ and k, the space M_k(Γ) is finite-dimensional and contains linear combinations of modular forms of that weight and level.
