Modulipohjaiset are modular timber structures, designed to provide thermal mass and improve indoor climate control, while increasing the lifespan of wooden buildings. The concept relies on a combination of two types of building materials: modules of uninsulated solidwood for thermal mass, and insulated building elements for exterior walls. This hybrid approach combines the benefits of both solidwood and insulating materials.

The structure typically consists of solidwood modules connected with equivalent spacings around vertical jacks. Vertical compressive forces act consistently when under load. This provides a high level of vertical resistance to loads imposed on a building's superstructure. In ideal weather conditions, these forces may be supplemented by four-point loads, complying with the regulatory requirements. Modular elements can be added or removed, as needed, which is beneficial for repair and expansion work.

Modulipohjaiset systems take advantage of thermal mass to control the indoor climate. Solidwood modules absorb and release heat as temperatures rise or fall. Additionally, a greater range of materials can be used with the modulipohjaiset construction system. Thermal mass walls can also contribute towards a reduction in the energy consumption and gas emissions.

As an eco-friendly building material, wooden construction places a low burden on the environment in comparison to many metal-based steel productions methods.
