Mobiilvõrgustik refers to a mobile network, which is a wireless communication system that allows mobile devices like smartphones and tablets to connect to the internet and communicate with each other. These networks are built upon a series of interconnected base stations, often referred to as cell towers, that transmit and receive radio signals. Each base station covers a specific geographical area, known as a cell, and devices within that cell communicate with the nearest base station. As a user moves from one cell to another, their connection is seamlessly handed over to the next base station, ensuring uninterrupted service.

The infrastructure of a mobiil võrgustik involves various components, including mobile switching centers, which manage the routing of calls and data, and the radio access network, which comprises the base stations and their associated antennas. Different generations of mobile network technology, such as 2G, 3G, 4G (LTE), and the latest 5G, offer varying speeds, capacities, and latency. 5G, for instance, promises significantly faster download and upload speeds, lower latency, and the ability to connect a much larger number of devices simultaneously, enabling advancements in areas like the Internet of Things (IoT) and autonomous vehicles. Mobile network operators are responsible for building, maintaining, and managing these complex networks, providing services to subscribers through SIM cards that identify and authenticate users on the network.
