Mittevähkkasvaja
Mittevähkkasvaja is a term used in Estonian medical contexts to refer to a benign tumor. Unlike malignant tumors (cancer), benign tumors do not invade surrounding tissues or spread to other parts of the body. They are typically characterized by slow growth and a well-defined border, often enclosed by a fibrous capsule. While generally not life-threatening, mittevähkkasvaja can still cause problems depending on their size and location. If a benign tumor presses on vital organs, nerves, or blood vessels, it can lead to symptoms such as pain, dysfunction of the affected organ, or cosmetic concerns. Diagnosis usually involves medical imaging like ultrasound or MRI, and sometimes a biopsy to confirm the nature of the growth. Treatment for a mittevähkkasvaja is often not necessary if it is small, asymptomatic, and not causing any complications. However, if it is causing symptoms or there is concern about its potential to become problematic, surgical removal is a common and effective treatment option. After removal, benign tumors typically do not recur.
