Misanthropic

Misanthropic refers to a general dislike, distrust, or hatred of humankind. A misanthrope is a person who harbors such sentiments. This disposition is not necessarily tied to specific individuals or groups but rather a broader aversion to humanity as a whole. The reasons for misanthropy can be varied and complex, often stemming from personal experiences, philosophical beliefs, or observations of human behavior perceived as flawed or destructive.

While misanthropy might manifest as cynicism or a critical view of society, it does not automatically equate to harmful actions. Some misanthropes may withdraw from social interaction, while others may express their views through art, literature, or commentary. The term originates from the Greek words "misein" (to hate) and "anthropos" (human being). It is important to distinguish misanthropy from misandry (hatred of men) or misogyny (hatred of women), which are gender-specific. Misanthropy encompasses a dislike for all of humanity. It is a personal outlook rather than a clinical diagnosis, though it can sometimes be associated with other psychological conditions.
