Mirrorinverted is a term used in digital imaging to describe a specific image transformation that combines a mirror reflection with an inversion of pixel values. Depending on the context, a mirror may refer to a reflection about a vertical axis (left-right), a horizontal axis (top-bottom), or both, while inversion typically means reversing brightness values. The result is an image that is spatially reflected and visually negated.

In practice, mirrorinverted processing can be implemented by applying two operations to each pixel: first compute the mirrored coordinates, then replace each pixel value with its inverted counterpart (for 8-bit images, 255 minus the original value). For color images, inversion is usually applied to each color channel. The two steps can be performed in a single pass, and the order of the operations does not substantially change the outcome for most implementations.

Variants of the concept may apply inversion in a different color space, such as converting to a luminance-chrominance space and inverting luminance rather than RGB channels. Some usages emphasize the aesthetic effect rather than a strict mathematical composition, combining symmetry with negative imagery for artistic or instructional purposes.

Applications of mirrorinverted include data augmentation in machine learning, where mirrored and inverted images help increase dataset diversity; digital art and design, where the effect creates striking symmetrical negatives; and preprocessing pipelines that require a standardized form of spatially transformed and intensity-adjusted imagery.
