Mikromaradványok

Mikromaradványok, or microplastics, are tiny plastic particles less than 5 millimeters in size. They originate from the breakdown of larger plastic items, such as bags, bottles, and fishing nets, through processes like weathering and UV radiation. Microplastics also enter the environment directly from sources like synthetic textiles, microbeads in cosmetics, and tire wear.

These particles are ubiquitous and have been found in oceans, rivers, soil, air, and even in food and drinking water. Their small size allows them to be easily ingested by a wide range of organisms, from plankton to large marine mammals. Concerns exist about the potential impacts of microplastics on ecosystems and human health. While research is ongoing, potential effects include physical harm to organisms, leaching of harmful chemicals, and acting as vectors for other pollutants.

Efforts to address the microplastic problem include reducing plastic consumption, improving waste management, developing biodegradable alternatives, and implementing technologies for capturing microplastics from wastewater. Raising public awareness about the issue is also a crucial component in tackling microplastic pollution.
