Mikromaradványok, or microplastics, are tiny plastic particles less than 5 millimeters in size. They originate from the breakdown of larger plastic items, such as bags, bottles, and fishing nets, through processes like weathering and UV radiation. Microplastics also enter the environment directly from sources like synthetic textiles, microbeads in cosmetics, and tire wear.
