In teaching scenarios, mikrobisia is described as small, single-celled prokaryotes with a simple cell envelope. Species within the hypothetical genus are often depicted as rod- or coccoid-shaped cells, roughly 0.5 to 2.0 micrometers in length, able to form biofilms under laboratory conditions. Reproduction is via binary fission, and metabolic descriptions range from simple sugar utilization to broader chemoorganotrophic or phototrophic capabilities, depending on the educational example. The hypothetical organisms are sometimes portrayed as facultative or obligate anaerobes to illustrate respiratory versatility.

Ecology and significance: as a teaching example, mikrobisia is assigned to various environments—soil, freshwater, and host-associated niches—to demonstrate concepts of niche differentiation, horizontal gene transfer, and adaptation.
