Mikroangiopátiás

Mikroangiopátiás refers to a pathological process affecting the small blood vessels of the body. These vessels include capillaries, arterioles, and venules. The term originates from Greek words: "mikros" meaning small, "angeion" meaning vessel, and "pathos" meaning disease. Therefore, mikroangiopátiás literally translates to "disease of small vessels."

This condition can manifest in various ways depending on the affected organ system. In the context of the kidneys, it can lead to impaired filtration and contribute to kidney disease. When it affects the brain, it can increase the risk of stroke. Mikroangiopátiás is also a significant factor in certain types of diabetes, where high blood sugar levels damage these delicate vessels over time, leading to complications in the eyes (retinopathy), kidneys (nephropathy), and nerves (neuropathy). Other causes can include autoimmune disorders, genetic conditions, and certain infections. Diagnosis typically involves a combination of clinical examination, blood tests, urine analysis, and sometimes imaging studies or biopsies of affected tissues. Treatment strategies are directed at the underlying cause and managing symptoms to prevent further damage and preserve organ function.
