Mihirakula

Mihirakula was a ruler of the Alchon Huns, a nomadic confederation that emerged from Central Asia. He reigned in the 6th century CE and is primarily known for his campaigns in North India. Historical sources, particularly the writings of Kalhana in his Rajatarangini, describe Mihirakula as a formidable and ruthless conqueror.

His empire is believed to have encompassed a significant portion of northwestern India, including parts of Gandhara, Punjab, and Kashmir. Mihirakula's reign is often associated with the destruction of Buddhist monasteries and temples, leading to a period of decline for Buddhism in certain regions. Accounts suggest a widespread persecution of Buddhists, though the extent and nature of this persecution are debated among historians.

Mihirakula's military successes were significant, but his rule was ultimately short-lived. He faced resistance from local rulers and was eventually defeated.
