Midzyfazowy

Międzyfazowy is a term used in electrical engineering to describe quantities that involve two different phases of a polyphase system. It contrasts with quantities measured phase-to-neutral. In a three-phase system, międzypfazowy refers to line-to-line (between-phase) voltages and currents. For a balanced system with phase shifts of 120 degrees, the line-to-line voltage V_LL equals the square root of three times the phase-to-neutral voltage V_LN: V_LL = √3 · V_LN.

Commonly cited values reflect regional standards. For example, in many European systems a phase-to-neutral voltage is 230 V, yielding a line-to-line voltage of about 400 V. In a typical North American 120/208 V three-phase wye system, the line-to-line voltage is 208 V while the phase-to-neutral voltage is 120 V. Delta configurations may provide a direct line-to-line voltage of 240 V or other nominal values, depending on the design.

Measurement and usage: międzypfazowy quantities are measured between two conductive phases, using a voltmeter or ammeter placed between the two lines. These quantities are crucial for sizing equipment such as motors, transformers, and protective devices, and for understanding power delivery in three-phase networks.

Safety: handling between-phase connections involves higher and potentially more hazardous voltages than phase-to-neutral work. Proper lockout/tagout procedures, insulation, and personal protective equipment are essential.
