Midouze
Midouze is a river in southwestern France. It is a tributary of the Adour River. The Midouze originates in the Landes department, near the commune of Saint-Justin. It flows generally westward through the department, passing through towns such as Mont-de-Marsan. The river's total length is approximately 145 kilometers. It is a relatively slow-moving river, typical of the sandy soils of the Landes region. The landscape along its course is characterized by pine forests and wetlands. The Midouze is navigable for small boats in certain sections, particularly downstream from Mont-de-Marsan. Historically, it played a role in local transportation and timber rafting. Today, its significance is more ecological and recreational, contributing to the biodiversity of the area. The river's watershed covers a significant portion of the Landes department. Its waters are used for agriculture and support various fish species. The Midouze eventually joins the Adour River near Dax, before the Adour flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The river is an integral part of the hydrographic network of the Aquitaine basin.
