Saint Justin is a recognized saint in various Christian traditions, most notably the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. He is primarily known as Justin Martyr, a philosopher and early Christian apologist. Born in the early second century in Flavia Neapolis (modern-day Nablus), Justin came from a pagan background and pursued philosophical studies. His intellectual journey led him to encounter Christianity, which he found to be the only "sure and worthy" philosophy.

Justin became a devoted follower of Christ and dedicated his life to defending and explaining the Christian faith. He traveled widely, teaching and writing. His writings are significant for providing early insights into Christian theology, liturgy, and the organization of the early Church. He is credited with several important works, including his First Apology, Second Apology, and Dialogue with Trypho. These works sought to demonstrate the rationality and moral superiority of Christianity to the Roman authorities and pagan intellectuals.

His defense of Christianity often involved engaging with contemporary philosophical ideas, attempting to show how Christian beliefs were not only compatible with but also fulfilled the noblest aspirations of Greek philosophy. Justin was martyred in Rome around 165 AD. According to tradition, he was beheaded for his refusal to renounce his Christian faith. His feast day is celebrated on June 1st.
