Michelintähdillä

Michelintähdillä is a Finnish term that translates to "with Michelin stars." It refers to restaurants that have been awarded one or more stars by the Michelin Guide. The Michelin Guide, originally developed as a promotional tool for the French tire company Michelin, is now one of the most prestigious restaurant rating systems in the world.

The Michelin star system, introduced in 1926, originally awarded one star for high-quality cooking. In 1936, the guide introduced two and three-star ratings. A single Michelin star signifies a very good restaurant in its category. Two stars indicate that the restaurant offers excellent cooking, worth a detour. Three stars are awarded to restaurants that offer exceptional cuisine, where diners eat exceptionally well, often for significantly more than the cost of a meal.

Receiving Michelin stars is considered a significant achievement for chefs and restaurateurs, often leading to increased recognition, prestige, and customer traffic. The evaluation process is conducted by anonymous inspectors who visit restaurants multiple times to assess various aspects of the dining experience, including the quality of ingredients, mastery of flavors and cooking techniques, the personality of the chef in their cuisine, value for money, and consistency. The inclusion of a restaurant in the Michelin Guide, especially with stars, often impacts the culinary landscape of a region.
