Meteoroloogias

Meteoroloogias is the Estonian form of the word meteorology, the scientific study of the atmosphere and the processes that produce weather and climate. It encompasses the observation, description, and prediction of atmospheric phenomena over time scales from minutes to decades.

The field combines physics, chemistry, and mathematics to understand air motions, heat and moisture transfer, cloud formation, precipitation, and interactions with the land and oceans. Core methods include surface and upper-air observations, radar and satellite remote sensing, laboratory experiments, and numerical weather prediction using computer models that solve the equations governing atmospheric dynamics.

Branches of the discipline include synoptic meteorology (weather systems and forecasting), mesoscale meteorology (localized phenomena such as thunderstorms), atmospheric chemistry, and climatology (long-term climate patterns and change). Applied meteorology serves sectors such as agriculture, aviation, shipping, emergency management, and renewable energy, informing decisions that reduce risk and optimize operations.
