Mesyylikloridi

Mesyylikloridi is a chemical compound with the formula CH3SO2Cl. It is also known by its IUPAC name methanesulfonyl chloride. It is a colorless to yellow liquid with a pungent odor. Mesyl chloride is a reactive compound and is primarily used as a reagent in organic synthesis.

One of the main applications of mesyl chloride is in the formation of mesylates. A mesylate is an ester of methanesulfonic acid. The mesylate group is an excellent leaving group, making it useful in nucleophilic substitution reactions. For example, mesyl chloride can react with an alcohol to form an alkyl mesylate, which can then be easily displaced by a nucleophile. This reaction is often used to convert alcohols into halides, ethers, or amines.
